Despite the fact he will be 41 years old when his latest contract with the Washington Capitals runs out in 2026, Alexander Ovechkin won't rule out a return to Russia to finish off his pro career.

"Is the contract connected with the fact that I will end my career at Washington? We will talk in five years," Ovehckin told Russian media outlet TASS.ru.

"There is a desire [to return to Dynamo], but again we will talk in five years," he added.

Ovechkin played with Dynamo Moscow from 2001 to 2005 and again in 2013 during the NHL lockout. He has often expressed his desire to finish out his career with the club. Even at 41, if he says he wants to play there, there's no doubt he'll be welcomed with open arms.

Ovechkin is currently ranked sixth among all-time NHL scorers with 730 goals. He needs 894 to catch Wayne Gretzky, who is at the top of the pile.
