Hockey's biggest story continues to mortify more and more people in the hockey world and surrounding it as the details continue to trickle out. I am of course talking about TSN's Rick Westhead's reporting on the 2010 Chicago Blackhawks alleged sexual assault scandal and the ongoing litigation which has prompted an internal investigation on the matter.

For those of you who may just be returning from vacation, or for others who are not privy to what has developed over the past few months, I'm going to issue a trigger warning. This subject matter can be disturbing, so proceed with caution.

The long and short of the situation is that, during the Blackhawks' 2010 Stanley Cup run, the video coach at the time, Brad Aldrich, invited two Blackhawks players to his home, on separate occasions, under the guise of wanting to discuss game footage. Once the players arrived - again, on separate occasions, Aldrich allegedly turned on pornography instead of game footage, has been accused of proceeded to attempt to touch the players sexually, allegedly trying to force oral sex and, as the report claims, even threatened a player with a bat to get what he wanted.

One of the players in question, who shall remain anonymous, due to his own wishes, had come forward with his allegations and filed a civil lawsuit against the Blackhawks organization for essentially burying the whole thing and not having Aldrich arrested and charged.

The other part of the civil suit claims that the player in question had begun being targeted with homophobic slurs from his teammates, who all knew of the alleged sexual assault as well.

On Friday August 13th, the Blackhawks organization was bound to a deadline to respond to the amended lawsuit, complete with the allegations of homophobic slurs being directed at the plaintiff.

Rather than responding, the team has asked the Judge who is assigned to the case for another month's time to figure out how to respond.

This one feels destined to drag on into the 2021-22 season, and that's going to be one hell of a dark cloud over the Blackhawks' organization.

This one continues to be a story worth following, as it has some massive implications on hockey culture. This one just goes to show that things aren't just going to be swept under the rug and made to go away anymore.
