Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs will miss some training time after undergoing surgery on his wrist. According to a release from the team, "Matthews encountered discomfort upon increasing his on-ice training earlier this week. After consultations with specialists and Maple Leafs medical staff, surgery was the recommended course of action. His recovery will be a minimum of six weeks."
Matthews missed some games during the 2020-21 season due to a nagging wrist injury. If he needs the whole six weeks, he"ll miss the first part of training camp for the upcoming season, and possibly the first pre-season game.
Matthews scored 41 goals in 52 games last season, earning him the Rocket Richard Trophy for most goals in the league.
