Jack Eichel caused a stir in the hockey world earlier this week as he seemingly joined Twitter amidst a dispute with his team over getting him traded out of Buffalo. Eichel, who had almost no social media presence, appeared to have started an account complete with the blue check mark, meaning he was verified. However, he didn't say anything, which led many to question whether it was real.

Eichel put questions to rest Friday after John Vogl of The Athletic said he had spoken to Eichel's agent and confirmed the account was fake.

"Sources have confirmed this is not a fake account. Source being me, Jack," said Eichel.

He retweeted Vogl's initial Tweet, but it had already been deleted. Vogl then put out another Tweet stating he deleted his original one has he had been given incorrect information. He added he can now confirm it's Eichel's real account.

Why Eichel decided to join Twitter now in the middle of a dispute with the Buffalo Sabres is a bit of a mystery. Perhaps he plans to use it to counter any misinformation he sees online. Meanwhile, rumours continue to swirl about where he'll possibly end up with the New York Rangers, Minnesota Wild, LA Kings and others all apparently in the mix.
