Oilers give massive contract extension to Darnell Nurse

The Edmonton Oilers and defenceman Darnell Nurse have signed a huge contract extension. It is an eight-year deal worth $74 million, That's an annual cap hit of $9.25 million per season.

Nurse, 26, was drafted by the Oilers in the first round, seventh overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. In 406 regular season games across seven seasons, Nurse has 157 points (45 G, 112 A), 352 penalty minutes, and is a +20.

At $9.25 million, he'll be the fifth-highest paid defenceman in the league in 2022-23, out-earned by only Erik Karlsson, Drew Doughty, Zach Weresnki and Seth Jones.
