The New York Rangers organization decided to scratch a 5-million dollar forward from their lineup, hinting at a possible trade incoming.

The Blueshirts are set to play against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday afternoon.

Original six matchups never disappoint, the Rangers announced an important decision regarding their lineup.

In breaking news, Elliotte Friedman confirmed that Reilly Smith will be a healthy scratch for the game.

He added that Chris Kreider, who was also involved in many trade rumors, and Filip Chytil will be in action Saturday afternoon.

In his career, the 33-year-old forward took part in 862 regular season games with the Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights, and Rangers.

This season, Smith, drafted 69th overall by the Stars in 2009, scored 12 points, including three goals, in 22 games.

He won a Stanley Cup with the Golden Knights in 2023.

The New York Rangers Are Poised To Make A Trade Soon

The Rangers have been struggling recently, and many experts believe the organization will make a few trades before the March 7th deadline.

Management has many options on the table. Some rumors notably involve captain Jacob Trouba, Mika Zibanejad, and Chris Kreider.

Now, it seems Smith is entering the discussions.

It'll be interesting to see what general manager Chris Drury decides to do next. The team has great trade assets and big goals.

They could be in a great position to add a top-six forward or a top-four defenseman this season.

Among other teams, the Nashville Predators could be great trade partners. The team is looking to add players who will be able to help the team win now as they look to bounce back from their tough season start.

Reports also confirmed that the team is interested in acquiring J.T. Miller from the Vancouver Canucks.

Of course, they'll keep in mind that their goaltender Igor Shesterkin will ask for a massive contract extension, probably making him the highest-paid goalie in the NHL.

Unless the team turns its season around soon, big changes will be made in New York.
