Igor Shesterkin has been a standout for the Rangers in recent years, and now it appears the team are ready to reward him for his stellar play.

The New York Rangers have one of the highest paid cores in the NHL, and despite lacking Stanley Cup Playoff success, yet another one of their key pieces is set to be paid in a major way. According to a recent report from TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the Rangers front office have made no secret about how much they love No. 31, and have also let his camp know that they are willing to top Carey Price's $10.5 million AAV deal, to date the biggest goaltender contract in NHL history.
"Our understanding is that the Rangers have let Shesterkin's camp know they are willing to pay him more than the $10.5 million that Carey Price made and is still on the books for.
However, there is a timeline on when this deal will reportedly be done, with both parties agreeing that if nothing gets done before the regular season, all talks of an extension will be held off until the summer of 2025, when Igor will officially be a free agent. Currently, Shesterkin has just one-year left on his deal, a contract that pays him $5.7 million per season, but after winning the Vezina Trophy and putting up some incredible numbers, it's safe to say that whether or not he breaks the record, he'll be getting a significant upgrade.
Over 213 games in his NHL career, Shesterkin has tallied an impressive .921 save percentage and a 2.52 GAA to go along with an amazing 135-59-17 record, making him arguably the top goaltender in the league. There are other players that can certainly make an argument for that, but coming into a contract season at 28-years of age, the time is now for Shesterkin to get paid, so don't be shocked to see him to get north of $10 million in the next 12 months, whether it be in New York or elsewhere.
