While currently listed at 215 pounds on the NHL website, the center doesn't look even close to that number in this new image.
Matthews did go through an illness during the season that kept him out of game 4, 5 and 6 of the first round of the NHL playoffs this past season, while also hindering his performance in game 3. He was able to come back for game seven in, ultimately, a losing effort.
Some fans have also speculated that accurate weight numbers haven't been recorded yet and Matthews may be close to 15 to 20 pounds lighter in an attempt to be faster and more agile on ice.
The center, who has posted 60 or more goals in two out of the past three seasons, has accrued 368 goals and 281 assists for 649 points in just 562 games played across 8 seasons since being drafted in 2016.
Matthews took over the captaincy this past offseason as the Leafs transitioned the title from forward John Tavares to Matthews.
