With their Stanley Cup win just behind them, the Florida Panthers have officially put first-overall pick defenseman Aaron Ekblad on the trade market.
Aaron Ekblad has had the season of a lifetime with the Florida Panthers. After a stint on Injured Reserve, this 28-year-old defenseman finally got his first Stanley Cup win.
However, it looks like Ekblad is headed elsewhere in the NHL. Following the team's recent Stanley Cup win, the Florida Panthers have put the former first-overall NHL draft pick on the trade block.
"Tough part of the biz... I'm told #TimeToHunt are shopping D Aaron Ekblad. He also switched agents this season."
With a win under his belt, fans are divided on whether or not this is the right move forward for Florida. Some have pointed out his affinity to injury and the necessity to open up the Panthers' cap space, leaving others hopeful that he would be traded to their team.
"Would be heartbreaking to see happen. However...UFA after the coming season at 29 y/o. Injury prone. Only slows down from here. Point production down. Would be the right time and provide 7.5 mill cap relief this season...
But still...would be sad AF."
With summer trade season in full throttle, it could be only a short time before we hear of Aaron Ekblad's new home. Hopefully wherever he ends will have something valuable enough to bring to the Florida Panthers' table.
