Elliotte Friedman breaks the silence on Marner and Tavares' futures
After firing Sheldon Keefe, the flood gates opened for the Toronto Maple Leafs to make more moves this off-season, possibly including Mitch Marner and John Tavares.
Mitch Marner has been a key piece of the Toronto Maple Leafs for nearly a decade, but he seems like the most likely person to be moved by Brad Treliving this off-season. John Tavares, the captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs who signed a massive $77-million free agency deal with the team in 2017 has been disappointing in the playoffs for his entire tenure, and a move of a player of his leadership calibre would send a clear message to the players, and to the entire league.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has now commented on such:
There are teams out there that are going to start asking Toronto, 'Okay, if Marner is available, what are we looking at here?' As I've said before, going back to last summer with Nylander, teams know that Toronto is looking for the best defenseman that they can possibly get. So who's out there via trade and what are some of these teams willing to do. That's what I think the next month before the draft is going to be all about."
