Last night at the end of the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers game defenseman Carson Soucy laid a dirty hit on Connor McDavid. Now the veteran defenseman could be facing a suspension.

During a scrum at the end of the game involving the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers Connor McDavid took two nasty hits. One of which came from defenseman Carson Soucy.

Connor McDavid took a beating after the final horn 😳😬 #oilers #canucks

The hit caused a ton of debate online. The play was not a clean hit but the debate has been around whether or not a suspension is warranted. Now today NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has confirmed that Carson Soucy will at least face a hearing from the Department of Player Safety.

Sounds like there will be a hearing for Carson Soucy out of the end-of-game scrum in Edmonton last night

As of now, it is not known whether the hearing will be in person or via phone. This is a major distinction because it could determine the length of a potential suspension. The play in question was totally unnecessary and dangerous.

Under normal circumstances, a hefty suspension would be deserved. However, with this being the Stanley Cup Playoffs Carson Soucy might only miss a game or two.
