It didn't take long after his contract termination with the Ottawa Senators for former second-round draft-pick Filip Chlapik to find a new home. Chlapik and the Sens parted ways last week after the 23-year-old had spent parts of four seasons with the organization. According to reports out of Finland, Chlapik has signed a long-term deal with the Lahti Pelicans of the Finnish Elite League.

Chlapik managed 56 games in the NHL during his time in Ottawa, scoring five goals and 11 points.

Meanwhile, the Montreal Canadiens have announced that the contract of Kevin Lynch, a veteran of the AHL and ECHL, has been terminated. The two sides mutually agreed to part ways. Lynch is an American and is leaving Laval to return home to his family.

The 29-year-old was under a one-year AHL contract to play with the Rocket. He had played in seven games this season, recording one goal and one assist. Lynch is a former 2nd round draft pick (59th overall) of the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2009. He has never played an NHL game, instead going back and forth between the ECHL and AHL since completing his college hockey career in 2013.

We're seeing this kind of thing happen more often this season, especially with European players, as being in another country makes it pretty much impossible to see family members during the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because Lynch's contract was only for the AHL, he did not need to be put on unconditional waivers before Montreal could complete the contract termination. Lynch is now a free agent and could sign with an American team closer to home (Michigan) if he intends to continue his hockey career.
