No one really expected big things from the Detroit Red Wings this season. The team is firmly in rebuild mode and while some good, young talent has been added, it will be at least a couple of seasons yet before we see major improvement.

Despite that, the addition of goaltender Thomas Greiss through free agency seemed like a very solid move by the Red Wings. Greiss had some very good years with the New York Islanders and looked poised to be a big help to the team. So far this season, it hasn't worked out well at all. Greiss has just one win in 14 starts (1-11-3) and his numbers leave a lot to be desired. His frustrations boiled over Saturday as the surprising Chicago Blackhawks took it to him, scoring seven goals on 32 shots for a .781 save percentage in the game. On the seventh goal, scored by Alex DeBrincat, Greiss has clearly had enough and smashed his stick twice over his net. Check it out. The best replay comes around 45 seconds into the video.

To be fair to Greiss, that was a perfect shot by Debrincat. But, after letting in seven in a game with the kind of season he's had, Greiss apparently had to let go of some of the anger he was holding on to in any way possible. Greiss's goals against average this season now moves to 3.46, with a save percentage of .882. He has another year left on his contract after this one, which is paying him $3.6 million per season (AAV).
