Former NHLer Todd Bertuzzi arrested for drunk driving

Todd Bertuzzi, who played close to 1200 games in the NHL, is once again finding himself in the news for all the wrong reasons. According to several reports, Bertuzzi was arrested in the state of Michigan over the weekend and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

TMZ states Bertuzzi was arrested near Auburn Hills in Oakland County not far from where he lives early Saturday morning. Police initially stopped him after a car went through a red light. After getting out the car, officers attempted to have Bertuzzi blow into a breathalyser, but he reportedly refused. According to TMZ, other field sobriety tests were conducted which showed Bertuzzi was allegedly under the influence and he was taken into custody.

Bertuzzi was booked at Oakland County jail and released about nine hours later pending an arraignment. Officers had also received a warrant to conduct a blood test, but there's no word on whether it was done or what results it produced.

Bertuzzi played a total of 1159 regular season games in the NHL from 1995 to 2014. He is best known for his time with the Vancouver Canucks and, of course, the infamous incident with Steve Moore. In 2004, Bertuzzi skated up behind Moore and sucker-punched him in the back of the head during a game against Colorado that included a lot of heated exchanges. The punch and subsequent fall to the ice broke three of Moore's vertebrae and also gave him a concussion, ending his NHL career. Bertuzzi was hit with criminal charges in the ordeal and ultimately pleaded guilty to assault in a plea deal. Moore also sued Bertuzzi and a private settlement was reached in 2014.
