Player Takes Out Goaltender with UFC Move while Officials Watch

This might be one of the craziest things I've ever seen in a hockey game. A player puts a goaltender in an MMA style guillotine choke and holds it until the netminder in unconscious, all while officials watch.

Goalie Choked Unconscious with Guillotine while Officials Do Little to Stop It

According to post on social media, this video comes from the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL), which is based in British Columbia. As the two teams push and shove in the corner after the whistle, Richmond Sockeyes player Eithan Grishin puts the goaltender from the North Vancouver Wolf Pack, Evan Paul, in the guillotine choke. Not only would he not let go, but he makes sure to cinch it in harder as he goes along, and at one point seemed to be making bragging motions to his teammates about what he was doing. A linesman makes a half-hearted attempt to break them up, but Grishin keeps going until Paul falls to the ice. The Wolf Pack say the goaltender is recovering at home.

"@ThePJHL @RSockeyes player Eithan Grishin chokes a goalie unconscious, holding a guillotine choke longer than you'll ever see in a sanctioned UFC fight 😳 no statement from the league or team, only from @NVanWolfPack stating the goalie is recovering at home."

Player Suspended Indefinitely After Putting Goaltender in UFC Move

The Sockeyes have since released a statement confirming Grishin is now suspended indefinitely while a proper review of the play can take place.

If something like this happened in the NHL, I honestly don't see that player ever getting into another league game again. This goes far beyond what is acceptable when it comes to roughness in hockey. If this isn't assault, I'm not sure what is. Grishin, 19,
