Over the last few days, rumours have been heating up that the Montreal Canadiens have been in conversations with the Columbus Blue Jackets in regards to forward Pierre-Luc Dubois.

Dubois, 22, is confirmed to have requested a trade out of Columbus during this past offseason. Since that news has become public information, the Habs have been rumored as one of the favorites to land the 2016 third overall pick. According to TVASports' Renaud Lavoie however, a trade between these two clubs isn't likely to happen, at least not this season.

Lavoie explained in a tweet sent out Friday morning that a trade between a Canadian team and an American team is extremely difficult this season and not likely to happen, given that a player crossing the border would be forced to miss seven games (14 days) due to COVID-19 guidelines. Considering the season is just 56 games long, that is a large amount of time for a player to miss.

Over the last few days there has been rumors that the Habs sent the Blue Jackets a package that included both Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Victor Mete, however the Blue Jackets reportedly countered with a package focusing on Nick Suzuki. With the point Lavoie brings up, it seems like a trade between these two isn't likely to happen this season, however if Dubois isn't moved this year it may pick up steam again in the offseason.
