Ovehkin's Slump: Will he Reach Gretzky's Record?

Alex Ovechkin's performance has become a source of concern for some, as he haven't scored in the last 11 games, and he's only 67 goals shy of Wayne Gretzky's record.
This season, over 26 games, he scored only five goals, projecting to just 16 for the whole season.
A significant reason behind this drop is the ineffective power play, a domain where Ovi usually excels.
Ovechkin's Shooting Percentage Reaches Career Low

Pierre LeBrun from The Athletic wrote in a recent article that Ovechkin's shooting percentage has dropped to 5.6, the lowest of his career.
"Ovechkin is shooting 5.6 percent right now, a career low. The only time he's previously been in single digits was 2010-11 when he shot 8.7 percent for a (full-season) career low of 32 goals in 79 games. He was at 14.3 percent last season, 15.0 the season before, and is at 12.8 for his career. Some positive regression is owed here one would think." - Pierre LeBrun

Despite this, Ovi remains the top point scorer for the Capitals. This shows the poor depth in the Caps' offense.
But things could be worse in Washington. The team holds the 5th position in the Metro Division with a 14-8-4 record.
While Ovechkin might have slowed down, he continues to contribute significantly to the team, both on and off the ice.
Historically, Ovechkin has came back from slumps, and there's anticipation that he might overcome this one too, possibly reaching Gretzky's record before his contract ends in 2026.
