An NHL journeyman has decided to leave North America in favor of a better chance in Europe.
Leivo Signs With Salavat
Josh Leivo, a 200-game NHL veteran and journeyman, has signed with Salavat of the KHL.
Josh Leivo signs one-year contract with Salavat.
Leivo has played his NHL career with the Maple Leafs, Canucks, Flames, Hurricanes, and Blues. He has played in 10 different seasons in the NHL but mainly has spent his professional career in the AHL.
Leivo dominated the AHL and has actually won the AHL's playoff MVP trophy but seemingly has never gotten his fair shot.
Last season with the Blues, Leivo played 51 games but averaged only 11:53 in TOI resulting in only 16 points. When given adequate ice time, Leivo has proven to be an NHL-caliber player posting 19 points in 36 games with the Canucks in 2019-20 where he averaged 15 minutes a night.
He will now look to impress with Salavat and hopefully return to the NHL one day in his quest for the elusive Stanley Cup.
