Steve Yzerman's Recent Statement Has Fans Outraged

Red Wings General Manager Steve Yzerman is well known for not only his illustrious playing career but his so-far incredible tenure as an NHL GM. The Hall of Famer is famous for his consistently genius trades, seemingly hypnotizing other GMs into making bad deals with him.

Yzerman recently held a press conference in Grand Rapids, where the veteran GM made a somewhat controversial statement regarding the immediate future of Detroit.

Yzerman had this to say:

While it's nice to know that Yzerman believes he can build a consistent playoff contender, it's more concerning that he doesn't have full faith in his own club to make the post-season this year.

While fans have long been met with pleas to simply "Trust the 'Yzerplan'" whenever they've called out Yzerman's tactics, it seems like reality might be catching up with most of the fanbase.

While Detroit has a plethora of young talent waiting in their prospect pool, some of Yzerman's more recent moves may prevent them from ever getting the NHL chances they deserve.

Most recently, Yzerman has brought in Ben Chiarot, Shayne Gostisbehere, Jake Walman, and Olli Maata, who all play defense on the left side. This group takes up a sizeable portion of Detroit's cap space, and prevent a highly touted prospect such as Simon Edvinsson from making the leap to the NHL.

While some would still rather have blind faith in Yzerman's long-term plan, others aren't so confident in the GM's decision-making abilities.
