Salt Lake City has been at the top of relocation lists for a while now. Per insider Eklund, they will almost certainly get the next NHL team.
Arizona Coyotes May Still Relocate
The Arizona Coyotes future home has been largely debated for as long as any of us can remember. From breaking ground somewhere else in the desert, to now playing at Mullett Arena, home of the University of Arizona ice hockey teams.

While the University has been a viable option, the arena is quite small, which has affected the ticket sales. This is a problem, specifically for ownership; as revenue has dwindled, and that is a detriment to the organization as a whole.
Salt Lake City Likely to Earn Next NHL Team
According to Eklund, there may very well be a breakthrough; as the idea of the Arizona Coyotes relocating to Salt Lake City has started to circulate.
Certainly Utah could handle a professional sports franchise, as evidenced by their NBA team, the Utah Jazz. They have generated great attendance numbers, and proven that Utah has the fanbase to create a great hockey culture within the NHL.
The Coyotes are up and coming, with current star
Clayton Keller and sophomore Matthias Maccelli bringing fans to their feet with their immense skills. With
Dylan Guenther and
Logan Cooley ready to take the next steps of their careers, a move and new arena deal could really put the organization on the map.
Their existence has been a rollercoaster, and since Shane Doan's retirement it hasn't been a smooth ride, but a move and established plan is just what the team could use.
The NHL could equally choose to expand to 33 teams. If they do, expect Salt Lake City to get the call.
