Report: Sharks want 21-year-old Devils forward in trade for Timo Meier
The New Jersey Devils are among several teams that have interest in acquiring San Jose Sharks forward Timo Meier before the trade deadline on Friday, March 3rd, but the ask for the 26-year-old is reportedly very high.
According to James Nichols of The Fourth Period, the San Jose Sharks want 2020 first-round pick Dawson Mercer as part of the package from New Jersey in a potential Timo Meier trade.
He went on to add, "A separate source indicated that the Devils haven't said they'll put Mercer on the table, but they also haven't said no."
What's on the table currently from the Devils, according to Nichols, is their 2023 first-round pick as well as 2020 seventh overall pick Alexander Holtz.
The Carbonear (Newfoundland) native is enjoying a fairly strong sophomore year in the National Hockey League. In 57 games thus far, Mercer's put up 35 points (16 goals, 19 assists), 14 penalty minutes and is a plus-12.
Mercer said he isn't focused on what is going on off the ice and is tuning out any trade rumours.
Mercer added, "(Trades are) something you can't control. Just play hockey, it's not that hard."
