The San Jose Sharks are going to be an interesting team to watch leading up to the trade deadline on Friday, March 3rd.
Erik Karlsson's name has been brought up over the last few months and in recent weeks, 26-year-old
Timo Meier's name has popped up in the rumour mill.
According to
Timo Meier's agent and former NHLer Claude Lemieux, there have been no contract extension talks between him and the San Jose Sharks, and that potentially that he'll be dealt by the deadline is growing.
"we have not discussed a contract extension and we are very realistic of the possibility of Timo getting traded." Lemieux said.
During the most recent edition of the 32 Thoughts podcast, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman mentioned that the Sharks are allowing teams to talk to Meier's agent about a potential extension before trading for him. Meier talked about that report from Elliotte Friedman on Saturday.
"I know that teams - if there's a trade - are going to want to talk extension, so I think that this makes sense" Meier said.
The Herisau (Switzerland) native is having a great season for San Jose, one of their lone bright spots along with
Erik Karlsson. In 47 games, Meier has 47 points (27 goals, 20 assists), 14 penalty minutes and is a minus-13.
