When Capitals' defenseman John Carlson was struck by a Brenden Dillon slapshot, it was enough to cause a collective grimace among spectators. The specifics, however, are a whole other ball game.
The Caps let it be known that Carlson is expected to miss most of - if not the rest of - the regular season.
In a recent instagram post celebrating the defenseman's birthday, Carlson's wife - Gina - divulged that Carlson had to have part of his ear surgically reattached at the hospital.

That certainly explains the lengthy nature of Carlson's injury timeline, not that it needed any justification.
