Drouin ready to return from injury; Mete's situation unclear
It had not been a good season for Johnathan Drouin of the Montreal Canadiens. In a year where his team was hoping he would find the offensive stride that he's seemingly capable of, Drouin played just 27 games in 2019-20 after battling a series of injuries. But, there is some good news. He has a chance to put that all behind him now as the Habs have announced the 25-year-old forward has been cleared to play in the first-round play-in series against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Drouin missed the final six games of the Habs' regular season with an ankle injury after recently returning from a wrist injury that required surgery.
As for Montreal defenceman Victor Mete, Canadiens' GM Marc Bergevin isn't too certain about that yet. He told reporters Wednesday that Mete returned to his hometown in Ontario during the lockdown and the team's doctors haven't had a chance to examine him. Drouin had stayed in Montreal. It had been announced that Mete would miss the rest of the regular season after fracturing his foot during a game against Detroit on February 18th.
Montreal will need all the help it can get for its series against the Penguins. The team just barely squeaked into the NHL's 24-team playoff format. The series against Pittsburgh will be a best of five. A start date has not yet been announced, but it will likely be mid-to-late July.
