Montreal Canadiens prospect Cole Caufield was voted the Big Ten Freshman of the year after his season with the University of Wisconsin. The award is voted on by conference coaches and media.

It was a stellar season for Caufield as a college freshman, as the 19-year-old posted 19 goals and 36 points in 36 games. Those numbers were good enough to lead the team in scoring, with the next closest player putting up 28 points. Despite being undersized at just 5-foot-7, 162 pounds, the American born forward has put up big numbers at every level he's played, including the 2018-19 season in the season with the U.S. National Under-18 Team where he scored an incredible 43 goals in 36 games.

Due to his size, Caufield fell in the first round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, where the Habs were able to select him with the 15th overall pick. Though it is very early, it looks like the pick could end up being a big time steal for them.
