Saturday night, it's with a heart full of emotion that former 7th round pick, 207th overall in the 2009 NHL entry draft, Ben Sexton, announced that he was retiring from professional hockey due to numerous injuries he had to heal in previous seasons. For safety reasons, he came to the conclusion that it was better for him to hang up his skates. Before he retired from professional hockey, however, Sexton wanted to send a loving message to everyone who made his dream of playing in the NHL come true.

His message was well received, as former teammates Torey Krug and Bobby Robins sent him a few words of thanks and courage for the future.

Even though the 28-year-old only played two NHL games with the Ottawa Senators in the 2017-18 season, this former 7th round pick can be very proud of what he has achieved during his professional hockey career. Before retiring, the centerman played 200 games in the American Hockey League with the Providence Bruins, the Albany Devils, the Belleville Senators and the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins, scoring 44 goals and 45 assists for a total of 99 points.

In his last season as a professional hockey player, Sexton played for the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins in 2018-2019, recording seven goals and three assists in 26 games.
