Per TSN Insider Pierre LeBrun, it sounds like a June draft is very likely to happen. This has been debated heavily over the last few weeks as many believe the season should be completed prior to the draft happening, but it appears the league doesn't see it that way.

A June draft has many questions surrounding it. One big one being, what happens with players and picks teams traded at this year's trade deadline?

An example LeBrun wrote in his latest article for TheAthletic is the New Jersey Devils / Vancouver Canucks situation. This is a very unique situation because the two clubs never actually made a trade with each other. However, the Devils own the Canucks first-round pick from the Blake Coleman deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning prior to the deadline (Tampa got the pick from the Canucks last June in the J.T. Miller trade). The confusing part is that if the Canucks were to miss the playoffs this season, that pick would have the potential to be a lottery pick.

It feels very unfair that the Canucks, who may still make the playoffs if the season were to continue, would have to see their former pick be used by the Devils to select a top five pick. Other questions remain as well, such as trades on deadline day. Would the trades be accepted and not go through until the beginning of next season? Or could this year's deadline almost work as an extended trade deadline and allow players traded to play for their new teams if or when the season resumes?

This is certainly confusing and although frustrating to many teams, it is hard to blame the NHL league officials. These are very unprecedented times and everyone is trying to do their best to come up with the right solutions. One thing that is for sure, is that this deadline will be the most bizarre and interesting draft in a long time, perhaps ever.
