The Boston Bruins have sent an offer to a veteran defender for a professional tryout and are awaiting his decision; that player -- previously unknown -- is
Anton Stralman, formerly of the Arizona Coyotes.
Stralman, 36, has had quite the career for a seventh-round pick in 2005. Skating in 930 NHL games, the Swedish defender has managed 293 points for seven different clubs. Over the 2010's, Stralman carved out a niche role as one of the most underrated two-way defensemen in the NHL, and the fact that he shoots right-handed is a bonus.
In a recent stint with the Arizona Coyotes, Stralman's play was not enough to turn the Yotes' fortunes around, but he performed as solid as one could expect. In 74 games for Arizona last season, he potted 23 points and a -16 rating. Stralman's defense numbers crumbled in Arizona, but over his career he has always had strong 200-foot results as well as strong point production.
Boston is riddled with injuries right now, including right-shot defenseman
Charlie McAvoy, so adding Stralman would provide insurance there.
