Flyers GM Confirms the Worst Regarding Defenseman Ryan Ellis

On Tuesday, Frank Seravalli reported that Ryan Ellis was not expected to play in the 2022-23 season for Philadelphia, in a huge blow to the Flyers' defense.

Today, GM Chuck Fletcher confirmed that Ellis would not play this season, and he dove into detail regarding the defender's full injury. Ellis' injury was to his hip but has been dubbed in the past as 'multi-layered,' which cannot be a positive thing.

According to Charlie O'Connor of The Athletic, "I'm not a doctor, but I believe Fletcher referred to Ryan Ellis' issue today as a torn psoas, in addition to issues with his hip and adductor. That's the most specific clarity we've gotten on the exact nature of his injury, which Fletcher reiterated today was 'multi-layered.'"

The 31-year old is still in the prime of his career, but this injury of his has kept him out of action for almost a year. Judging by the sound of things, one year could turn to two in short order.

Many folks out there suspect whether or not Ellis' career is over, but those concerns are premature. He is still young enough that a resurrection could be in order, however, Philadelphia does not seem like the place for that.

Ellis played four games with the Flyers before shutting it down. John Tortorella had a scathing review of the team's dressing room. The team's culture is that of a losing club.

Perhaps, Ryan Ellis would lace the boots back up for a team with even a hint of winning anything. Who can say for sure?
