Anastasia Ovechkin (nee Shubskaya) posted sad news on her Instagram today.

"Today, we have lost my grandfather, Yuliy Yefimovich Veksler. At 91, other than his loss of eyesight, he was strong in body and spirit, had a clear mind, and unbelievable energy! Then came this ill-fated virus...Unfortunately, his system was not able to handle it. I know that he was looking forward to meeting yet another great-grandchild. Rest in peace!"

Ovechkin and his wife have a son, Sergei, and had announced in February that they were expecting another. Anastasia had lost her mother, actress and director Vera Glagoleva three years ago to stomach cancer.
