The NHL stoppage that happened back on March 12th was strange territory for every NHL player. None more so however, than Ivan Provorov.

The Philadelphia Flyers defenceman has not yet missed a game in his 315-game career. In fact, Dan Girardi is the only defenceman that has ever played more consecutive games with the same team to start a career. Playing hockey at this time of the year, whether in the NHL or as a kid, is all Provorov has known his entire life.

“Kind of my whole life I've played a lot,” Provorov said back in February. “It's what I love doing.”

Due to the NHL stoppage, the majority of players have been unable to skate due to the majority of rinks through North America being shut down. Provorov however, has found himself staying on the ice, skating in the Wilkes-Barre area.

The 23-year-old defenceman is living with his former billet family. The house has a gym so he has been able to get workouts in, and there is a private rink near the house that is around the size of a tennis court. Certainly not ideal, but better than most players are able to get at this time.

“It's just me, no one else, so still following the rules with social distancing and everything like that,” Provorov said on a conference call Thursday. “Luckily I'm able to skate and work out.”

Provorov is trying to train with the mindset that the NHL season will return, although he admits it is not as hard as his offseason training regime.

“In the offseason, there's 10 weeks of hell, going 10 to 11 hours a day,” he explained. “Here's a little less, probably spending around five or six hours trying to stay in shape, maintain, doing different stuff that I can for me to stay in shape.

“I've been working out most of the time and skating whenever I can. … Doing that for half the day and then half the time just spending time with my billet brothers and billet sisters.”

Though there is no guarantee the NHL returns this season, this has to make Flyers fans happy to hear. The stud defenceman was averaging just under 24 minutes of ice time per game this season, and will without a doubt be ready to go if the season is to resume.
