The Montreal Canadiens made a surprising move today, bringing over a prospect from the KHL. 22-year-old Arsen Khisamutdinov has agreed on a two-year entry-level contract with the Habs.

Montreal drafted the 6'3", 203 lbs. left wing in the sixth round in 2019, 170th overall. The pick was based on his 2018-19 season, in which he registered 55 points in 41 games for Reaktor Nizhnekamsk of the MHL (junior level) and then received a call-up to Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk of the KHL and added five points in nine games.

This past season was split between the KHL and the VHL (AHL-style minors). Khisamutdinov had 13 points in 14 games in the VHL for CSK VVS Samara, but disappointed at the KHL level with 3 points in 31 games.
