Longtime NHL goaltender Craig Anderson has been stuck home for the past month wondering if he not only played his last game as a member of the Ottawa Senators, but also of his career.

Anderson said Wednesday he is still trying to physically and mentally prepare himself in case this season is to return to action. He is still hopeful that is the case, as he remains hungry to continue playing. The 39-year-old is set to become a free agent at season's end, and given his age along with his 3.25 goals against average (GAA) and his .902 save percentage (SV%), it doesn't seem likely teams will come running for his services this offseason.

“I'm kind of trying to stay in the moment as best I can,” Anderson said. “[And] focus on the what-ifs with what we are going through as far as the current season. … Can we get back and finish our season?”

As far as the upcoming free agency, Anderson has stated he isn't looking that far ahead just yet.

“We'll cross the bridge of the future down the road, but for right now I miss the game like crazy,” he said. “I want to be on the ice. I want to be with my teammates. Right now that is the way I'm leaning is that I want to compete and love what I do every day.”

Despite not having great numbers the past few seasons, it is hard to fault Anderson. He has had the extremely tough task of playing in front of a young rebuilding Senators team, who has often left him hung out to try. To his credit, he has not complained and has continued to battle for his team. If it is the end for Anderson, it was a terrific career. The American netminder has appeared in 648 regular season games, posting a 2.84 GAA and a .913 SV% along with a 289-251-69 record.
