While the bulk of news surrounding the shutdown of hockey deals with the professional aspect of it, there is also the youth side of the sport that needs plans in place before things can return to normal. As such, the province of Ontario is preparing to get that done.

According to Ian Mendes with TSN Radio, Ontario is forming a pair of advisory panels to look at the best possible ways to have professional and youth hockey return in that province. Leading the panels will be Cyril Leeder, the former President of the Ottawa Senators. He is also a member of the Ottawa Community Ice Partnership, which organizes the annual Bell Capital Cup minor ice hockey tournament.

The list of things that will need to be considered before hockey returns in all its forms is lengthy, to say the least. Not only will it need to be determined how best to return players, but fans and parents as well. Arenas can be cramped at the best of times, especially those hosting professional or high-level amateur games. Ontario is not just the most populated province in the country, it contains just under 40 percent of the entire population of Canada.

The advisory panels are expected to make their recommendations within the next four-to-six weeks.
