While we've heard plenty of speculation and assumptions on when, if and how the NHL might resume the 2019-20 season in the summer, we're now hearing confirmation of some plans straight from one of the league's executive. Florida Panthers President Matt Caldwell was involved in a conference call Tuesday where he talked about how the resumption of the season would be pulled off.

"JUST IN: NHL looking at restarting season in July, radio host and sports reporter Andy Slater posted to Twitter. "Games would be played at 4 or 5 neutral sites with limited or no fans, according to Florida Panthers president Matt Caldwell. On the conference call, he said this plan is not finalized."

There have been a few potential neutral sites that have been looked at to host games, including one in North Dakota, another in New Hampshire and yet another in Saskatchewan. While Caldwell revealed what part of plan, what was not discussed is whether players would be arriving at sites early to hold mini-training camps, whether the regular season would be finished before the playoffs start, how many teams might be involved, etc.

The NHL has stated since it suspended play on March 12th that it has full intentions on completing 2019-20 in some way, even if it's a scaled back version of the usual playoff scenario involving 16 teams with a best-four-of-seven games format. How it will happen remains to be seen but we're finally getting an official glimpse of the plans.
