Andre Drummond is most probably the best rebounder in the game right now. In fact, this is why he's valued a max contract in the NBA and is considered a star in the league. In three years out of the last four, Drummond averaged the most rebound out of anyone, and he was on track to do it again this year but the season has been suspended.

At the beginning of the season, Drummond said he believes he is the greatest rebounder of all time. Well, it seems like he truly believes it because the 6 foot 10 center made another statement today:

“I've always thought that about myself,” said Drummond during an interview with Michael Pina of SB Nation. “I've just never been vocal about it. I'll never put another man before myself. I'm always gonna think I'm the best. Even if I'm wrong I'm still gonna say that I'm right. I'm still gonna find a way to try and prove it.”

In a total of 57 games this season, Drummond caught an average of 15.2 rebounds a night. In eight games with the Cavaliers (team he was traded to recently), he wasn't as good with only 11.1 per game.

His best season came during the 2017-18 campaign wit the Detroit Pistons, he registered 15.0 points, 16.0 boards, 3.0 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.5 steals over 33.7 minutes per game while shooting 52.9 percent from the floor and 60.5 percent from the free throw line.

Detroit traded Drummond for absolutely nothing. In return of the star center, they received Brandon Knight, John Henson and a second round pick in 2023. Why is that? He has a player option next year in which people believes he will opt in. This is 28.75 million dollars they just didn't want to pay.

Drummond is far from a bad player, he just can't adjust to the new NBA and can't make a team competitive on his own. The 26 year-old can't space the floor and isn't the best at attacking the rim. He may be the best rebounder in the league and a solid defender, but still, a team can't win with him as a primary weapon on the offensive side. In seven complete seasons with the Pistons, he has only been to the playoffs twice, and didn't even win a single game. The Pistons were swept in both of those series.

Given that Drummond is an amazing rebounder and probably ranks as one of the best of all time, he must adapt to the game to become the center piece of a great team. It is already hard for centers to make a big difference on their own (KAT with the Timberwolves,) being unable to contribute on a star level on the offensive end makes it litteraly impossible.

In 2019-2020, Drummond contributed to 17.7 points per game on 53.5% from the floor with 15.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists. He also added 1.9 steals and 1.6 blocks per game.
