There are so many questions that remain unanswered as play in the NHL continues to be suspended. Will the current season be finished? How will it look if it is? Will players still become free agents on July 1st? There are several others as well, including when the draft will be held. We now know one of the options the NHL is investigating.

According to TSN Insider Pierre LeBrun, Deputy NHL Commissioner Bill Daly has confirmed the draft may go ahead in June before the 2019-20 season is finished. That, of course, raises several other questions such as how the order will be determined, what happens to conditional picks, etc. These are all things that would need to be decided before the draft can go ahead.

The NHL scouting combine and draft had been scheduled to take place in Montreal on June 26th and 27th, although the NHL had previously said it was postponing those dates. It's almost certain that the draft will take place virtually rather than in person if it goes ahead in June.
