Given his track-record and his seemingly excellent relationship with players, it's a little surprising Gerard Gallant wasn't snapped up immediately after being fired by the Vegas Golden Knights back in January. However, TSN is reporting that the former Jack Adams Award winner as the league's top bench boss is in the running for the new head coach of the New Jersey Devils.

"Gerard Gallant, according to our sources, (was) interviewed last week," said Insider Pierre LeBrun on the latest edition of Insider Trading. He added the conversation with interim GM Tom Fitzgerald took place virtually rather than face-to-face.

Alain Nasreddine took over behind the Devils' bench after the team fired John Hynes in eary December. Nasreddine went 19-16-8 before the league suspended play on March 12th.

Gallant was with the Vegas Golden Knights for three season before being replaced by Peter DeBoer, who had been recently fired by the San Jose Sharks. Gallant won the Jack Adams after leading Vegas to a playoff berth and a run to the Stanley Cup Final in their inaugural season.
