Baseball's hottest power couple might soon be rising in the baseball world.

Retired MLB star Alex Rodriguez and recording artist/actress Jennifer Lopez have retained JPMorgan Chase to raise capital for a potential bid for the Mets, sources told Scott Soshnick of Variety Monday.

Variety estimates the couples' net worth to be around $700 million. Meanwhile, the Mets were recently valued at $2.8 billion, according to Forbes.

Fred Wilpon has owned at least a minority stake in the Mets since 1980, with the Wilpon family becoming the sole owners of the franchise in 2002. Fred's son Jeff currently acts as the team's chief operating officer.

During the offseason, there were report the Wilpon's were interested in selling the team, with billionaire hedge fund manager Steve Cohen quickly tied to the club as a potential suitor. However, Cohen released a statement in early February saying the transaction was "too difficult to execute" and that he would be moving on.

In early March during an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, A-Rod said "if the opportunity came up, I would certainly look at (purchasing the Mets)." He also said the Mets were his favorite team growing up.
