As anyone who has been following hockey knows, Connor McDavid was a lock to go first overall in the 2015 draft. Already slated to be a generational talent before ever playing one minute in an NHL game, McDavid attended the draft lottery live in studio that year. It's something he now says he wishes he hadn't done.

"Asked about the draft lottery McDavid says if he had a do-over he wouldn't have gone to the studio to be live when it happened," TSN's Ryan Rishaug posted to Twitter. "Says it was something they weren't sure was a good idea and for good reason given how his reaction was analyzed."

If you watch video of the draft (we'll post it at the end of this story), McDavid didn't seem overly excited about Edmonton winning the first overall pick that year and many analysts were quick to point that out in the following days. The reality is that McDavid just isn't an excitable person. He's been called "Captain Serious" for good reason. He's usually very calm and collected to the point where he almost seems disinterested in what's going on around him. That's obviously not the case, though as his play proves he's all business on the ice. Still, analysts saw something to run with and run with it they did, questioning whether McDavid would request a trade immediately after being drafted by the Oilers. All that seems like ancient history now after he signed an extension for the maximum of eight years. At $12.5 million a year, he's the highest paid player in the NHL. But, you can bet that there would be several teams lined up to give him even more if he had told Edmonton he wanted out.

Skip ahead to the six minute mark if you don't want to see the entire draft lottery.
