Jakub Dobes and Martin St-Louis got exactly the edge they wanted in Carolina, and the young goalie showed it again in Game 1.

Montreal did not just beat the Hurricanes.

The Canadiens walked into Lenovo Center and hammered Carolina 6-2 to take a 1-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Final.

That score already had Carolina fans upset.

Then came a smaller scene that says a lot about who Dobes is.

During one of the scrums, the official pointed back toward the crease and told Dobes to stay out of it and get back near his net.

He basically ignored him.

Anthony Martineau summed it up in the clip that made the rounds: the official told Dobes not to get involved in the shoving, and Dobes did not care much for the warning.

That is the kind of moment teammates notice right away.

Goalies are not supposed to drift too far into the noise, but players love when their guy shows he is locked in and willing to stand with the group instead of sitting quietly in the blue paint.

Jakub Dobes' heated exchange with referees is suddenly blowing up online

That is what makes this interesting.

Dobes already gave the Canadiens strong work in net through the first 2 rounds. In Game 1 against Carolina, he also gave them personality.

And personality matters in a series like this.

The Hurricanes play fast, they forecheck hard, and they want opponents to get uncomfortable. Dobes looks like the type who enjoys that kind of temperature.

That can get dangerous if it crosses a line.

The file even points that out. This kind of attitude can bring penalties if the officials decide to get tighter with the game.

But right now, Dobes is staying on the right side of it.

He is not melting down. He is not chasing trouble. He is just letting Carolina know that if things get heated around his teammates, he is not going to act like he is above it.

That is a real playoff look.

And after Montreal opened the series by punching Carolina in the mouth, it only adds to the pressure on the Hurricanes before Game 2 Saturday night.

The Canadiens already took the opener.

Now Carolina also has to deal with a young goalie who is playing well, acting fearless, and apparently not too interested in following every little suggestion from the referees.
