Semi-Final Saturday at the 2022 IIHF World Hockey Championship saw the hosts, Finland, take on the United States, while the defending gold medalists, Canada, battled Czechia.

In the first game of the day, Finland looked to advance to their third-straight gold medal game. The United States got the scoring started early in the first period as 1:04 in, Nate Schmidt put them up 1-0. Later in the period with just over three minutes remaining, Miro Heiskanen tied the game up at 1-1.

4:11 into the second period, the Finns took their first lead of the game through Sakari Manninen, who potted his fifth of the tournament. Finland would hold that lead for less than three minutes as Montreal Canadiens prospect Sean Farrell tied the game at 2-2. The game wouldn't stay tied for long as Sami Vatanen put the Finns up 3-2 nearly half-way through the second period.

In the third period, Montreal Canadiens forward Joel Armia scored five minutes in as Finland took a 4-2 lead. The score would stay that way until just under three minutes to play as Adam Gaudette brought the Americans within one. Finland held off the United States in the final 2:51 and will now play for the gold medal on Sunday. This year was the ninth time Finland has hosted the World Championship and regardless of tomorrow's result, they will win their first-ever medal on home ice.

Finland's goals: Miro Heiskanen, Sakari Manninen, Sami Vatanen, Joel Armia.
United States' goals: Nate Schmidt, Sean Farrell, Adam Gaudette.

The United States will now play in the Bronze Medal Game tomorrow at 8:20 a.m. ET, while Finland will play in their third-straight Gold Medal Game at 1:20 p.m. ET.
