Darren Helm's Buzzer Beater Series Clincher Comes on an Anniversary of Sorts

Darren Helm scored the series clinching goal over the St. Louis Blues last night in a truly shocking event. Nearly everyone thought the game was destined for overtime after back & forth, tightly contested action. The Blues' resilience was on full display, being outshot 39-20 at last count. Ville Husso looked appeared in regular season form, and some of us even thought we might get a Game 7. Alas, Darren Helm had other plans.

The savvy veteran scored the buzzer beating, series clinching goal with just under six seconds to go.

The craziest part is, it's not even Helm's first series clinching goal. Even crazier than that? It wasn't even his first series clinching goal on May 27th! Thirteen years ago Helm scored the Western Conference Final clinching goal to send the Detroit Red Wings to the Stanley Cup Finals for the second consecutive season, where they would eventually fall to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

It's coincidences like these that make me question whether or not we live in a simulation. Pretty freaky. The Avalanche will play the Edmonton Oilers in the 'Mac-daddy' series, some are calling it. The Battle of Nathan MacKinnon & Connor McDavid. A series featuring two of the best in the game, it's sure to bring the heat.
