On Tuesday afternoon, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced that Vancouver Canucks forward Antoine Roussel has been fined for slashing Nashville Predator's defenceman Yannick Weber. The fine that Roussel received is the CBA maximum of $5,000.

This type of play is nothing new for Roussel, as the Canuck's agitator has never played a full NHL season with less than 100 penalty minutes. In total for this game, Roussel ended up with 14 minutes in penalties, which included two for slashing and two for cross-checking on Weber, as well as a game misconduct for a scuffle with Jarred Tinordi.
Luckily for Roussel and the Canucks, he was able to avoid anything other than a fine for this play. Vancouver is in an extremely tight Pacific Division race for the playoffs and can't afford to have any players out of their lineup. As of today, they are first place in their division, but have the Edmonton Oilers, Vegas Golden Knights, and the Calgary Flames just three points behind them.
