In late January of this year, former NHL goaltender Ed Belfour was arrested on charges of criminal mischief and public intoxication in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Belfour was booked into the Warren County Jail, according to the jail's inmate records. Belfour allegedly tried to fight a manager at the hotel bar, struck a glass window and pulled a curtain rod off the wall, according to an arrest citation obtained by WKNY and the Bowling Green Daily News. The responding officers said his speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot, and he was struggling to stand up, which can all be corroborated in the video.
This wasn't his first arrest. On October 20th, 2000, Belfour plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge in which he was subdued by police after a woman he was with became frightened by an intoxicated Belfour in a Dallas hotel room. While under arrest and being transported to the local division, he allegedly offered Dallas police officers $1 billion for his release without charges. He apologized to the Dallas Stars organization and police officers involved and was fined $3000 for resisting arrest. Late in the 2006–07 season, Belfour, along with Panthers teammate Ville Peltonen, was arrested outside of a South Florida nightclub and was charged with disorderly intoxication and resisting an officer without violence. He was released the same day from Miami-Dade County jail on $1,500 bond.
Belfour played 18 seasons in the Nation Hockey League, spending time with the Chicago Blackhawks, San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Florida Panthers. He retired in 2007 with 963 games played (fifth all-time), 484 wins (fourth all-time), a 2.50 goals against average, and .906 save percentage. He's also won the Vezina Trophy Twice, the William M. Jennings Trophy four times, the Calder Trophy, and he was a six-time NHL all-star. In 1999 he won the first and only Stanley Cup of his career with the Dallas Stars.
