It was announced Tuesday morning by Edmonton Oilers gm Ken Holland that Connor McDavid is expected to miss the next couple of weeks with a quad injury.
"Connor has a quad injury, he's going to be out for two to three weeks. That's a normal timeline for this injury," Holland told reporters on Tuesday. "We're hoping less... It's not long-term. We'll double back a week from now."
Holland also added that McDavid will rehab the injury in Toronto during the team's upcoming three-game road trip.
McDavid suffered the injury on Saturday night against the Nashville Predators after he went into the boards awkwardly following a check from Predators defenceman Dante Fabbro. After the game he was diagnosed with a bruised knee.
McDavid skated with the team's power play group on Monday but didn't take part in the full practice. He told reporters after the skate that the injury felt more like a charley horse.
This is terrible news for the Oilers. They are already in an extremely tight battle for a playoff spot in the Pacific Division, and losing their captain and star player for up to three weeks will not help their chances.
McDavid is second in league scoring behind his Oilers teammate Leon Draisaitl. He's registered 30 goals and 81 points in 55 games this season.
