New York Islanders' President & GM Lou Lamoriello announced that HC Barry Trotz has been relieved of his duties this morning.

After reaching the Easter Conference Finals in two straight seasons, the Islanders failed to make the playoffs after a catastrophic start to the season. Barry Trotz will no doubt be hired again soon, but the question looms who will be taking over as Islanders' Head Coach.

Trotz's defensive approach to the game meshed well with GM Lou Lamoriello's philosophy, and the two have had lots of success together. However, Lou is not shy to make big changes. Like that time he fired Robby Ftorek less than a month before the playoffs started even though the Devils were in first place; they did win a cup, though.
