Auston Matthews to have hearing with NHL's DoPS (w/video)
The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety have announced that Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews will have a hearing on Monday for cross-checking Buffalo Sabres defenceman Rasmus Dahlin.
The incident occurred during the third period of Sunday afternoon's Heritage Classic. Dahlin originally cross-checks Matthews, before the pair get in a very brief shoving match. Matthews then gets up and cross-checks Dahlin in the neck area. Both Matthews and Dahlin received two minutes for cross-checking.
Matthews, 24, has never been disciplined by the NHL's Department of Player Safety in his career. The Scottsdale (Arizona) native scored his league-leading 45th goal of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Buffalo Sabres won by a score of 5-2. Buffalo is the first American team to play in a Heritage Classic and won in their debut.
The Maple Leafs are now 2-3-1 in their last six games and will host the Dallas Stars on Tuesday, potentially without their All-Star sniper.
