The Philadelphia Flyers have agreed to terms on a five-year contract worth $25.5 million ($5.1 million AAV) with defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen.

Ristolainen, 27, was acquired by the Philadelphia Flyers last summer from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Robert Hagg, a 2021 first round pick and a 2022 second round pick.

In his first season with the Flyers, the Turku (Finland) native has appeared in 49 games, tallying thirteen points (two goals, eleven assists), twenty-six penalty minutes, and is a minus-eleven.

There were rumours over the past several weeks that the Flyers may opt to trade Ristolainen, who was a pending unrestricted free agent. But the two sides decided to come together and find a deal that worked for everyone to ensure the 27-year-old Finn would stay on the Flyers blueline for years to come.
