During the 32 Thoughts segment on Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday night, Sportsnet insider Jeff Marek mentioned that the Minnesota Wild may be looking to trade the signing rights of prospect and 2022 Winter Olympian, Jack McBain.
"Jack McBain is another name we should be keeping our ears and eyes on very much. A third round draft pick of the Minnesota Wild, we saw him play for Team Canada at the Olympics. He plays at Boston College, 17 goals in 21 games, he's ripping up Hockey East. But he's in his last year of college and not unlike players like Adam Fox or Jimmy Vesey or Zach Hyman, he could chart his own course here, set his own future if he decides to test free agency and come out on August 15th." Marek said.
He added, "There is some speculation here that Minnesota may end up, at trade deadline, trading his rights. This is a go for it season for the Minnesota Wild, we know they have a cap crunch coming up and that's as early as next season. We'll keep our eyes on what happens here with the son of Andrew McBain, former NHLer, his son at BC (Boston College)."
The Toronto (Ontario) native, as mentioned, has now appeared in 22 games this season for Boston College in Hockey East, adding another goal since the segment about him on 32 Thoughts. In those 22 games, McBain has 29 points (18 G, 11 A), 14 penalty minutes and is a +11. In five games for Canada at the Olympics, the 22-year-old had two points (one goal, one assist), two penalty minutes and an even rating.
